This story appeared a couple of days ago, but apparently was a decision that was made last January: https://www.ncregister.com/cna/new-alle ... n-composer

Yep, I saw this in January. I'm torn, do we judge all music based on the sins of the composer?

I think we have to judge music on its own merits -- if it ain't bagpipes, it ain't music. :salut:

Now performances -- movies, TV, etc -- can be judged based on the performers. There are some shows I won't watch because the performers are not the sort of people I would have in my house.

I am not a fan of cancel culture. By all means, remove Haas's work because it's bad. But I'm not going to take all the Caravaggios out of museums because he was a louse. (I can't believe I just compared Haas to Caravaggio.)

Calling Haas a "composer" is giving him far too much credit.

In case anyone has forgotten what Catholic music sounds like.
