Hi all,

I'm new. And I'm not (yet) a Catholic (nor even a background in Christianity), though I've been reading and consuming Catholic theology of all kinds for about 4-5 years now.

I'm here for fellowship and support. Just to be in the company of Catholics, I suppose. Conversion is not an easy path to walk, for all the usual reasons—family, friends, the culture, the commitment, etc.

The real reason I'm not yet Catholic, however, is because my local parish RCIA has been incompatible with my schedule for several years and I do not live in a heavily Catholic area (only one parish within dozens of miles). As a single father (divorced, non-church marriage), my time is not easy to rearrange. At times I fight with myself and say—that is what it takes, and it is my obligation to do it.

But I have yet to overcome. I'm wondering if anyone has advice and/or kick-in-pants motivating speeches for managing RCIA scheduling, or just getting myself to make the sacrifices. I pray often for help and strength to do it.

Meanwhile, thanks to all for existing. It is a comfort to see this message board and the fact that it exists!

Ask all the questions you want.....also, perhaps you can tell the priest at that parish what you mentioned here and he may have some suggestions. Or, you may just be able to arrange to be at RCIA!

I know this sounds counter-intuitive, but the journey is relatively easy. If....you really want to take it. All of the ritual and culture and structure is just background noise, if you want to connect with Christ. I've found that the Church has a multitude of traditions and expressions and practices and spiritualities, one or more of which will fit everyone's personality and goals. It all comes together at the Mass

I also concur with all that has been said to date. My one piece of advice to you is this: don’t wait any longer. I waited 26 years to heed Our Lord’s call to join His Church, and the only regret I have is that I waited so long. Make an appointment to speak to a priest at your local parish, and tell him what you’ve told us. RCIA is the normal entry venue for converts to the faith, but it is by no means the only one. While I can’t guarantee he’ll make accommodations, I’d be somewhat astonished if your local priest didn’t offer something.
