I am hoping to get some advice about how to discern the holy spirit. Also i have some questions about how to tell if you have the gift of tongues (what is it and how do you know if you have this gift or not). I don’t know how to broach this topic and i need someone to help me out i would like to discus it further in a private message . Thank you .

You've broached it just fine. This is a discussion board. By limiting yourself to the opinions of one or two privately, you run the risk of being misinformed by well-meaning, but not so well-informed people.

There is a litany to the Holy Spirit you can find on-line; that can help much.

With regard to the gift of tongues, it is good to know that the Doctors of the Church on prayer do not even mention it; and those Doctors are great helps in understanding our spiritual journey to the Lord.

They are: St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. Therese of Lisieux. If I left someone out I hope someone tells me.

Prayer tongues, for some, in the beginning of their prayer life may help them focus. It is meant to fade away.
