The Prospect League, a summer wood-bat league for collegiate baseball players, announced today that the Normal Cornbelters (Normal, IL) will be joining their league. The Cornbelters were formerly in the independent pro Frontier League.

I looked into it further and learned that the Traverse City (Mich.) Beach Bums also will not be returning to the Frontier League in 2019. So the FL will be down to 10 teams next season.

Weird minor league sports news of the day:

The Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League have announced that they will be sharing their stadium with a National Pro Fastpitch team next season.

That in itself is not so weird - my local FL team, the Washington (PA) Wild Things, did the same for a couple of seasons.

What's weird is the name of this new team.

The Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois.

So this will be a Canadian team that will play their "home" games in Illinois. This is a partnership between the NPF and Softball Canada.

I wonder if poutine will be served at the concession stands?

Took me a second to realize what you were talking about.

I just looked it up, and would you believe the first half scoring and second half scoring were identical? Duke outscored Kentucky 59-42 in both halves. What are the odds of that.

My alma mater Wright State is on tonight against Western Carolina.
