Why are statues covered in the Catholic church during Lent?

This video stated the veiling or covering was done on the Fifth Sunday of Lent. If that is true, why did some Catholic churches have statues covered all during Lent?

I can't explain why some churches do it throughout all of Lent. Traditionally it's done for Passiontide which is the last 2 weeks of Lent (i.e. from Passion Sunday through the Easter Vigil).

Sometimes it's done for Holy Week only, though I'm encountering more places that do it for two weeks.

Our Parish has returned (in 2012) to the traditional custom of the two week period.

I can't help but notice that no one has answered Petronius' question of why this is done. What I think he really means to ask is, just what is it supposed to symbolize or represent. I would like to know the answer to that as well.

Our Pastor noted the subject in the bulletin a few times (hopefully this is helpful),
