Hey everyone,

Another question from me :wave
I don't mean this in an apathetic or flippant way but, why is the resurrection of the body at the end of time important for us?

If we do the will of God in our lives and die in the state of grace without any attachments to sin and we go to heaven, why does it matter what happens after?

If we are in eternal happiness in the presence of God forever when we die (presuming we are saved), why does it matter whether we are in heaven or whether we are in our physical bodies?

Human beings are a body-soul composite so, are we 'incomplete', as such, when in heaven? Is that why it should be important for us?
Scripture, church fathers and church councils have all dealt with this question and speak of it with such importance.

For example, when I reflect on my death and what will happen when I face the good God, I think and hope for entering heaven.
Should I also be reflecting on what my resurrected and glorified body will be like too? Again, I don't mean this flippantly but, if I am in heaven with God, the angels and saints, why would I care about having my body back?

Like, is this something the saints in heaven are longing for right now?

Thanks again all.

Christians have always believed in the Resurrection of the Body -- this may be due to the heavy Pharisee presence in early Christianity. Their opposite numbers, the Sadducees generally rejected the concept of life after death.

I have no problem believing it is true, just asking why it is important for us.
If, God willing, we make it to heaven, what does it matter if we get our bodies back at the end of time?

Because a human being is a body-soul composite, not just the soul.

So since human beings are a body-soul composite, are we 'incomplete', as such, when in heaven?
Are the saints in heaven right now, longing to have their bodies back?

Yes, a soul alone in Heaven is incomplete.

I think the standard approach is to say that the saints are as happy as they can be now, but that their capacity for happiness increases with the return of the body.

I think in reviewing, the OT and the NT have the same feature vs. benefits, just that the NT had soul and Flesh redemption eternel life for His disciples in heaven, as OT only had the souls of the saved awaiting in Abrahams Bosom for Jesus' return, before "The Christ".

Peace always,
Stephen Andrew
