I have looked endlessly for a order who would take me. I'm Bipolar and have been since my teens. I'm 62 now and on medication
Because of my age and illness NO order will take me.
I have given thought of starting a order just for women who are suffering with this illness. I wonder if there are women in this forum who like myself want to serve God's perpose.
The Churse is sympatetic to Catholics with mental disease but not to the point of accepting us in vocation.
Anyone have any ideas or comment on this topic. :?:

My brother has mental illness and he lives in a home. He lives like a celibate but a home cares for him. I do not know if he could be a priest, but it is true that some mentally ill people live like celibates.

Celibacy (abstaining from marriage and sexual relations) in the religious sense is a vocation, a conscious choice in the service of God.

Your brother is in the care and supervision of people trained to look after mentally ill people. That, and the effects of his illness, make him unsuitable for the priesthood. Being celibate doesn't have anything to do with it. He probably has no choice but to be celibate, in his circumstances. He can't care for himself, much less make a living for a wife and family.

Why try to start an order (which involves much more than getting a bunch of women together)? You can serve God's purpose by doing volunteer work. You don't have to be in an order to serve God. You can start a group for women like you, and do things as a group to help others. Even just a prayer/support group would be a good thing to do for yourself and each other.

Well said. And are there not third orders, as well?

What is the fascination with dredging up old topics?

I'm right there with you, sister. I've been diagnosed with lots of mental illnesses...including Type 1 BP. Stay strong, keep praying, make sure you take your meds. Also, get second, third, and fourth opinions (if you can) if your meds seem to be getting wacky or ineffective.
