I know I asked this before, but I couldn't find the post. Today there were four candles rather than the standard two. Was it because the feast was for Simon & Jude? When are 4 candles used? Also, during the homily, it was mentioned that the author of the Epistle of Jude was not an apostle. True? I know it says he's the brother of James, but was not sure which James. |

All the rubrics say is that there must be 2, 4, or 6 (not counting the extra one when a bishop is celebrating). The authorship of Jude is disputed. I generally think that people who dispute received traditions like this need to be more skeptical of their own skepticism. |

Four are never required. It's up to the priest/sacristans/whomever. |

I did light four candles because it was the feast day of St. Simon and St. Jude. Not to be confused with Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus Christ and despaired. |
