I know I asked this before, but I couldn't find the post.

Today there were four candles rather than the standard two. Was it because the feast was for Simon & Jude? When are 4 candles used?

Also, during the homily, it was mentioned that the author of the Epistle of Jude was not an apostle. True? I know it says he's the brother of James, but was not sure which James.

All the rubrics say is that there must be 2, 4, or 6 (not counting the extra one when a bishop is celebrating).

The authorship of Jude is disputed. I generally think that people who dispute received traditions like this need to be more skeptical of their own skepticism.

Thanks. So in addition to any solemnities, are there any feast days that require 4 candles?

Four are never required. It's up to the priest/sacristans/whomever.

I did light four candles because it was the feast day of St. Simon and St. Jude.

Not to be confused with Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus Christ and despaired.
