Hello. I am new to the board. I can't honestly call myself a Catholic, at least not yet because I haven't been through the RCIA yet, but I want to become a Catholic. This is detailed more in my introduction.

It said this was a forum for the old people. I will be 54 next month. Am I old enough to be here?

I wasn't raised in the church but I have never doubted that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.

I was going to ask if any of you watch EWTN. My introduction to EWTN is a story in itself.

I have dear friend who is a Lutheran. She and I were talking on the phone one night and I told her that I would like to get closer to God and come into Jesus more. I told her I have always had a lot of respect for the Catholic denomination since I was a child. My friend is a strong Christian and she has a very close relationship with God. When I told my friend about my feelings for the Catholic faith she balked. She said that she had been to Catholic churches with friends. My friend said, "I have been there, done that, and got the tee shirt." I persisted and she said, "OK. You need to go there, do that, and get the tee shirt. Be sure to get the tee shirt." She told me about EWTN, which I had never heard of, and said, "This will teach you enough about the Catholics to make a decision." .

Do any of you watch EWTN? I have enjoyed watching it. I will admit that I don't watch it all of the time and some of the other things that I watch aren't so healthy in ways, but I do enjoy watching EWTN. EWTN has made me think much more of the Catholic faith.

I am visually impaired and not able to drive. I am not completely blind but I am legally blind. The Daily Mass on EWTN serves as my church service. There are several shows on EWTN that I enjoy. Some of EWTN's shows that I enjoy, but this isn't a complete list are Religious Catalogue. Holy Rosary, the Daily Mass, and St. Michael Chapelet that includes Mother Angelica may be my favorite.

Although I do not, at least not yet, have the right to call myself a Catholic, EWTN has brought me great joy and great comfort.

I have quite a few shows that I like on EWTN. It seems that they have something for all ages.

Ray Guarendi is a favorite, along with Father Mitch Pacwa. When I remember to I put on the nightly news; and also like to say the Mercy Chaplet and the Rosary when that comes on in the afternoon.

I was baptized Catholic and was never able to go to Catholic schools, but my pastor where I grew up in Brooklyn taught us a lot. I learned a lot of Catechism class as well. After we were taught our lessons once a week then the pastor came out and for about 1/2 hour he taught us. He was great! I am so thankful for his teachings all those years. He did not talk down to us young ones and gave us a lot of good theology.

I thought of one more thing I should have added to my response to your message above.

The Catholic Church is not a denomination. It is the original Church that Our Lord Jesus Christ established, with all the sacraments He gave us.

Some shows I watch all the time. Others put me to sleep. The speaker may be informative, but they have such a monotone voice, I don't know how they get on the air, expect maybe that they need to fill air time and don't want to keep showing reruns.

My favs are EWTN Live with Fr. Mitch Pacwa (he also has another show, Scripture & Tradition), Women of Grace, World Over with Raymond Arroyo, and most episodes of The Journey Home. Some of the guests on that last one are great, and others are clearly not public speakers. I also watch EWTN New Nightly. I can't watch the MSM anymore, and EWTN has a mix of secular and Catholic news, so I can at least stay semi-informed.

Dorothy please forgive me if I sounded offensive or said anything wrong or upsetting. I didn't mean to offend anyone. As you know, the Catholic church is something that I want to be a part of in more words than I can say.

Thank you! EWTN has helped me a lot. Mother Angelica was amazing! I just discovered it about a month ago. Well, maybe two months ago. I am not sure. It was given to me by someone hoping to discourage me.

Have you ever watched St. Michael's Chaplet? It is a rerun because Mother Angelica is on it but I enjoy it.

The Daily Mass serves as my church service.

On a lighter note, it takes someone with great courage to speak publicly when the person is not a good public speaker. I once read something that said, on a whole, public speaking is one of our greatest fears.

Dear "I Love Dogs"......Be assured you have not offended me! I just wanted to underline that fact.

Peace!

The Journey Home program on EWTN was an early favorite of mine when I began exploring
the Catholic faith.

You're correct. That is one of the many reasons that I respect the Catholic church so much and want to be a part of it.

I used to say that like a cradle Catholic I didn't need the TV to tell me I'm Catholic so I didn't watch EWTN. I knew the teachings well enough. I'm into it now - I have it on as company and, in a hostile world, appreciate the reminder of the teachings and the darn-nice people on it. Even when I didn't watch I appreciated Mother Angelica's becoming traditional again. But I understand a "visitation" by Pope Francis' men decimated her convent. Anyway, any network willing to broadcast Damian Thompson ("Holy Smoke") is a friend of mine.

High-church Novus Ordo: music so nice that if you close your eyes you'd think you were in an Episcopal church.

Scary thought.

When it's not doctrine, they do it better.
