When Rod started recording show tunes, he lost me. Next I expect him to have a show in Branson, Mo.
Some time back I noticed that he began to grate on me, probably about the time his disco-oriented songs appeared.
Tonight's the Night made things worse. Now, not only were his songs annoying, they were patently offensive.
And THEN those show tunes appeared. Yes, I said show tunes:
The Way You Look Tonight, It Had to Be You, My Funny Valentine, 'Til There Was You. . . Just stick an icepick in my ear and get it over with!
I used to like
Maggie May. Now I even hate that just to be consistent.

I love the American Songbook; what I hate is aging rockers trying to sing it. They don’t have the control needed to do it justice. Much as I love Sir Paul McCartney’s work with the Beatles and Wings, I heard him do a cringeworthy performance on Siriusly Sinatra once.
It pains me to say this, but Paulie should have quit singing publicly about ten years ago. The one time I truly enjoyed watching him at his age was the car drive karaoke thing he did with James Corder. I don't mind saying I got a little teary listening to him reminisce about writing
Let It Be. The rocking bar scene was nostalgic fun, but he clearly should not be charging money to hear him.
