... to the Presence of God"; by Paul Zucarelli. It's pretty new being released in 2018.
I watched a video where Paul was talking about his near death experience. It was one of the more shocking ones I have heard.
I had never heard of Paul prior to that story, but during his retelling of his experience he mentioned how he authored a book (the one in the title of this thread).

Needing to give my wife and children some ideas for my birthday and Christmas list I noted this book. Given that I hadn't heard of Paul before and had no idea of what type of an author he is.... and given that I've grown more discriminating in my tastes I was not all that interested to read the book when did receive it as a birthday gift. Typically my experience in similar situations have been underwhelming: a book that would have been kept in an interview format online.

I was wrong: this book is very good. Paul is an exceptional writer. The book is an autobiography and moments that are particularly intense he handles impressively. A touching, heart-rending experience in one book can come ladened with so much extra words so as to douse the 'flames' with letters. Paul keeps those moments short and poignant.

He writes of his mother's passing:
Quote:
As she was approaching physical death and still conscious, all she wanted to do was hold my hand. Reflecting on this, the only real "need" at the end is for human contact or touch and knowing a loved one is near. Witnessing my mother's death taught me there is human dignity in passing from this earthly life to eternity.

... and that's all he offers on that moment.

He's a good story teller.
