May I say that you have an outstanding memory, and your school reading was staggering, even by my standards.
Jogged my memory, too. We also did MACBETH, JULIUS CAESAR, CANTERBURY,THE SCARLET LETTER, OUR TOWN, SILAS MARNER, and various Poe, O. Henry and Thurber short stories. And other stuff.
I bet I can drag this thread further into the weeds. In the 6th grade, my teacher was also the school librarian. Gave me my first library job. And assigned a couple of reading tasks for her class. One was to read several books on a common theme, and write short synopses and reviews of them. Which we were to put in a folder, with an original cover we would design and execute. I took WWII as my general subject (this was at the beginning of my life-long hobby, re: WWII books and reading). Read a few such books from my father's library, and one or two from my early orders. One I definitely recall was THIRTY SECONDS OVER TOKYO. The cover I made I cut from a couple of contemporary war comics. It was mainly a WWII Sherman medium tank, climbing a small elevation, turret gun elevated and firing. I added extra cut out smoke, then, cut letters from the comic to spell out World War II, positioned as if they were being fired from the gun. Wish I hadn't cut up the comics.
Another book/art assignment from that teacher. Read a book, design a book jacket for it. I read THE THREE MUSKETEERS. The jacket was made from an ivory toned piece of construction paper. On it was the title, in cut out foil letters, across the top. In the lower left corner were three rapiers, crossed in the traditional Musketeer manner, piercing a cut-out hat, of the Musketeer sort, with an added plume, in green foil.
As you can guess, it's a slow day, of inclement weather, around here.
