We are to be, and yet I often struggle with not being either.

I was born and raised Protestant, having only converted to Catholicism in adulthood. "Having fun" was a thing in my childhood denom, including the pastor jumping and leaping around with us kids while "playing bean-bag" (keepaway) in the church basement after Wednesday night services. If you can visualize that!

Vacation Bible School was fun. Sunday School was fun. Revival services were serious with some weeping and repenting, but one was also to be joyous. Potlucks were fun.

Most of my life I firmly believed "having fun" was a birthright as an American citizen. And I enjoyed it.

Now I am daily reminded to work harder at being sober and vigilant. But there is an impulse otherwise, and it kicks hard.

Gracious Lord, assist me please!

Christians ought be the most joyful people on the block. It is not a sin to have fun, to laugh, to play.

Sober does not mean dour.

You're an adult now, and presumably have or will have children. You have responsibilities. That doesn't mean you can't have a lot of fun, but childhood is over.
