I think it's that a lot of the lumber is warped.

When my husband buys wood, he sorts through it forever trying to find descent boards.

Thanks. Since I never buy lumber, that would explain why it didn't make sense.

Having done a considerable amount of home repairs which required lumber, I can say that Lowe's is no better. Sometimes it could feel like forever to find a board that was straight.
