How many cups makes a pound of pinto beans? My wife bought a 4 lb bag of beans and I just can't guess to get my regular pot of beans.

point being it takes 4 cups of flour to make a pound...but only 2 cups of water to make a pound

in order to test bomby's answer, get 4 equal containers out, and divide the beans equally into those 4 containers...so that each container should have a pound of beans ...give or take a bean or so... then take one of those containers and pour the contents out into measuring cups and see what you get...

i'm not doubting bomb's experience in the kitchen...or his answer...but it seems to me , given the link i posted, it would be the only sure way of determining how many cups of beans equals one pound

here's an interesting link

http://www.pastryitems.com/book_of_yields.htm

Examples: 1 cup, by definition, holds 8 fluid ounces. But 1 cup of water actually weights 8.3 ounces. Whereas 1 cup of cracked pepper weights 4 oz. and a cup of table salt weighs 10.3 oz. while 1 cup of honey weighs 12 ounces!

Here's a better way than FS's. Just see how many cups are in the four lb. bag and divide by 4.

Beans freeze very well. I make a whole crock pot full about once a month and separate in baggies for the freezer. Sure does take all the planning out of prepping them when we need them.

I agree. Ask anyone if they would rather be pounded by a pound of feathers or a pound of lead and the smart ones will tell you that they would rather be pounded by a pound of feathers.

A pound of anything is 16 oz.

DS get you a pair of scales, they only cost 20 or 25 dollars :)

I got a set of scales from amazon for about 25 and they are digital. Very nice but small and lightweight.

You still don't see it? Remove the scales from your eyes.
