In Lord of the Rings, dwarves were played by normal sized actors

In Moulin Rouge, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was played by a normal sized actors.

Yet again, Hollywood decides to tell the world that dwarfs are not good enough for their movie.

It is very much like hiring a white actor and making his skin black to play Martin Luther King, Jr.

The dwarves in the LOTR are not the same thing as dwarfs in the real world. In Tolkien, dwarves are an altogether distinct species from human beings, not even created directly by God. Their only similarity with real dwarfs is that they're somewhat smaller than the average human. It actually makes sense to do what Jackson did in his casting.

I expect that's not the case in Moulin Rouge, since I take it we're talking about strictly human characters there.

FWIW the dwarves in Prince Caspian where played by actual dwarves. :fyi:

And in Pirates of the Caribbean there was a dwarf crewman played by Martin Klebba (though I don't know what inspiration there was for his character). He becomes a more prominent supporting cast member in the later two movies of the original trilogy.

Or hiring a male actor to play the part of a female? Or hiring a homosexual to play the part of a heterosexual or vice versa?

I don't consider someone's sexuality in any way similar to being a person with dwarfism.

Peter Dinklage

If you get a chance, this movie is very good.

My guess is our filter caught it - the word "M I D G E T" is in the title of the article, so, I guess that the net nanny changed it to "censored" :laughhard

I thought the casting for dwarfs in LotR was well done.

kage r, I know this is an issue that relevant to your life... but I really dislike the thread title. I googled it to see if it came from a slogan or movie and couldn't find anything like that that gives a context other than how it comes across as a terrible indictment of those movies. There could be other explanations that aren't based in evil intentions as the one that 'stinkin dwarfs aren't good enough'.
