A detail jumped out at me at Mass on Sunday: There were 12 yoke of oxen, or 24 altogether. Other than the idea that it points to the 12 tribes, and the 12 Apostles, does anyone have any other insight as to why anyone would need that many? Does it also point to wealth?

Equally puzzling is how many people it would take to EAT 24 oxen before the meat spoiled!

The most common interpretation is that it describes the full people of God: 12 original tribes, 12 apostles to go through the world. A factor of the 144,000 in Revelations.

Whenever I read this, I go:Aha! This is a part of God's plan and providence for his universe.

God Bless!
