No they treated her as God commanded.

Gen 16; 9 Hagar was under Sara's authority but she became recalcitrant and refused correction by Sara (humiliated her) so she left, but the angel appeared to Hagar and sent her back, telling her to submit to the authority placed over her.

Here is the Haydock commentary.

Thanks for the question it was not one I knew the answer to until reading the following. :D

Hagar ran away because Sarai mistreated her.

Sometimes people abruptly quit their jobs, it doesn't mean they were actually abused or mistreated. If you read in full context you will see that after Hagar conceived, she herself became abusive towards Sarah. There was likely mutual dislike and distrust. Hagar was an employee and could be dismissed with or without cause.

If you were going to search for morally problematic behavior here, I thought you were going to mention the problem of Sarah 'giving' Hagar to Abraham, this kind of thing would not be tolerated today, although apparently it was a common practice in the early Bronze Age.

"and Sarai dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her face."

She was being disciplined and she rejected the correction.

The story is clear, Hagar was treated horribly by Sarai.
