I do believe praying the rosary daily has brought peace to my life.

This morning I prayed the Rosary while sitting outside under the carport (it's raining here) ... but still didn't have the Apostle's Creed down, so when I was done I sat there and went over and over the prayer til I had it down, then went inside and asked my husband to read along as I recited it (I gave him the prayer) and he was very happy that I knew it by heart ... he is amazed at how much I have changed over the years he's known me... I was a real hellion when he first met me

In Portugal, they usually don't recite the Apostle's Creed. So, it is OK to omit that creed when you recite the Rosary.

They do say One Our Father, ten Hail Mary's, one Glory for each of five decades.

What about the Fatima Prayer? Do you pray that one?

Yes, I do and I usually say that in Portuguese. It is a request Our Lady of Fatima to add a prayer at the end of each decade on July 13, 1917.

It should be correctly translated, though. The Fatima Prayer is as follows:

"O my Jesus, forgive us, save us from the fire of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who are most in need."

I do not know why those translators changed and added the words (marked in red) to:

"O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy."

Portuguese version is:

"Ó meu Jesus, perdoai-nos, livrai-nos do fogo do inferno; levai as almas todas para o Céu, principalmente as que mais precisarem."

The latter is closely to words actually written down by Sister Lucy.

Check http://www.fatima.pt/ and click the Uncle Jack flag for English version. Then click "Message of Fatima" in upper left. Next, click "Message of Fatima - Prayers". You should find the Fatima Prayer in the last paragraph under "PRAYERS TAUGHT BY OUR LADY."

The Latin version goes:

O mi Iesu, dimitte nobis debita nostra, libera nos ab igne inferni. Conduc in caelum omnes animas, praesertim illas quae maxime indigent misericordia tua.

So it does have 'fire', not 'fires', but the other additions are still there.

P.S. In one of the prayers, Mary talks about the 'sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary'. What sins are these? Surely sins are more against God than against our neighbours (including Mary)? Why are reparations for the sins committed against Mary so important?

Turgonian, with regard to your P.S.......I believe what is meant by sins committed against Mary is disbelief in her perpetual virginity, also in her sinlessness from the first moment of her Immaculate Conception. Perhaps they may be sins of stubborness (The Lord only knows), and in some cases simply ignorance and/or lack of understanding. There may be more to it, and perhaps someone else can explain more.

OK, that makes sense. I feared that all sins might be counted as sins against Mary, which would be un-Christian.

Do you make the Sign of the Cross when you say the Glory Be?

No, we raise our candles up when we say the Glory Be at Fatima.

I was under the impression that it was fitting to make the Sign of the Cross every time the Father, Son and Holy Spirit were mentioned together. So I always make the Sign when praying the Glory Be. Is this odd?

I only make it at the beginning and end of the Rosary (In the name of....)

Never heard of making it during the Glory Be. Never seen anyone do it.

But I see where Eastern Rite does it during the Glory Be.

Yay! I finally learned the "O God who's only begotten son..." prayer! So now I've pretty much got it all memorized...well, I still need to cheat and check which mysteries are for what day...

On the left side there's a section called "Mysteries" it's got pictures of the different Mysteries. Click on the ones you want; e.g. "Joyful", and you get a page with those pictures on it. Beautiful.

I like to visit http://www.savior.org/ then call up a 2nd window and call up the Rosary Creations site into that 2nd window. Then I put the two windows side by side and pray away before the Blessed Sacrament. It's awesome.

PS: We can pray any of the Mysteries on any given day. The "guide" is just that - a guide. It's not a rule written in granite that we must pray certain mysteries on certain days & if we don't it's a sin - no; e.g. you don't have to pray Sorrowful Mysteries on Friday. It's good to do that but it's not mandatory to follow the guide. If Friday comes and you feel more like praying a different Mystery, go for it. If it's Friday and you're flying high because of some joyful thing in your life and you want to pray Glorious Mysteries - by all means pray the Glorious Mysteries. If someone is seriously ill and it's Sunday and you want to pray the Sorrowful Mysteries that day - go for it. It's nice to pray Glorious Mysteries on Sundays & Sorrowful on Fridays but it's not written in granite on pain of sin that we have to follow the guide. It's an excellent guide, but don't get hung up on it. It isn't written in granite.

Any of you have the mysteries memorized?

Until you memorize it, then keep a copy handy.

After a time you will have the mysteries memorized....until then keep reminders.

We will not be shot down because of memories being slow!

I have to have my booklet still - and plus it has things to help with the meditations which are invaluable to me

I know a few folks who do this, others bow their heads at the mention of the Trinity as at the mention of the Holy Name.
