I reflect on the Mystery until a certain part of it calls me.

I meditated on that and how it related to me personally in my own relationship with Christ.
There have been other insights of that nature.
I visualize the scene - and the movies I have seen about the life of Christ have helped in that visualization. They have made it more present rather than remote.
I also will sometimes return to my Rosary book, so that I do not become lazy in my meditation.
But I don't pray the Rosary the same way every single time. Sometimes it is the prayers themselves that are in the forefront, sometimes the Mysteries, sometimes the Mysteries in relation to my own life.
Sometimes, it is an issue in my own life that takes the forefront - something that I need to work on, something I need to take to God.
God speaks to us through the Rosary, and I think that in a myriad of ways He will do so.

It wasn't that Mary and Joseph lost sight of Jesus per se, it was an allegory, a foreshadow of Jesus' three year mission of spreading the gospel. It was also a foreshadow of Jesus, having died and rising after three days, found in the Resurrection.
Luke 2:44-49 And thinking that he was in the company, they came a day's journey, and sought him among their kinsfolks and acquaintance. And not finding him, they returned into Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that,
after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors,
hearing them, and asking them questions.
And all that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers. And seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: Son, why hast thou done so to us? behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said to them: How is it that you sought me?
did you not know, that I must be about my father's business?
