Post subject:  Not Allowed to Receive on the Tongue

I started to receive the Holy Eucharist on the tongue at the promptings of my previous parish priest.

Now most of the time (I go to quite a few different parishes based off of where I am with my family on that Sunday) priests don't make any issue with it. Sometimes they'll kindly say "please wait until the end though" but still allow me to receive on the tongue.

But there have been instances where the priest has said "we don't allow this". I said to him "it is allowed and I am permitted to receive on the tongue", but to avoid making a scene and acting unbecoming in front of the Eucharist I simply walked away. I felt like crap to be honest. I acted in a sour way to the priest who had the Eucharist in his hands. I know I shouldn't have acted that way and feel ashamed that I did.

But what should I do? Should I simply receive in the hands? Or not receive at all?
And wait until the next Mass where I am allowed to do so?

How much do you really have to travel around for mass? I would think you could get the feel for your general area. Or even make some calls during the week and ask for parish policies.

In some dioceses receiving in the hand is mandated because of Covid 19. No need to make a scene -- after all, the priest is offering you the Body of Christ. Accept it!

Is that allowed though?
I don't think the bishop can ever revoke reception on the tongue.

I know what the priest is offering me... that's why I'm asking the question if I'm not allowed to receive on the tongue if it's allowed to not accept it at all, doing so reverently.
I am trying to be gracious by not arguing the point with the priest (the point that he is wrong in disallowing reception on the tongue).

There's a big dispute over whether or not bishops can mandate it.

People also seem to have this idea that reception in the hand is more sanitary than reception on the tongue (hint: it's not)
