Is it necessary to pray the rosary every day or only when I feel it in my heart to pray it? Many times I fall asleep forgetting to pray it

What do you mean by "necessary"? It is not a sin if you don't, so in that sense it is not necessary.

Nevertheless it is of great spiritual advantage to say the Rosary, or at least part of it, every day. Maybe you could schedule to say it earlier in the day rather than before going to sleep. Since it is a meditative prayer, when you are tired it is easier to fall asleep.

God be with you.

When you say whole rosary do you mean all of the mysteries? I only meditate on one mystery per day

Generally when people say they pray the rosary it means they meditate on one of the sets of the mysteries - and so are saying 5 decades of the rosary, one for each of the mysteries. So on Monday, for example, one would meditate on the Joyful Mysteries:

1 - The Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
2 - The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
3 - The Nativity of Our Lord
4 - The Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple
5 - The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple

The rosary is a private devotion, that means you can choose to pray it and you can choose not to. One can be a good Christian and never pray a rosary. One can be a good Christian and pray many rosaries every day.

I would be very hesitant to say that. I would also be hesitant to say that the rosary is just a private devotion. I don't think a merely private devotion would be the subject of so many Papal writings.

They didn't have a rosary in early days of the Church.

True! It was more difficult for laymen of the time to participate in the public prayer of the Church.

Not really. Thats too heavy a load and you promoting eternal torment is exactly why the church holds true to eternal damnation in hell. Praying the rosary is only needed like once a week or month, or when you feel like it but nobody should over do it.

Back to the topic at hand...

Many years ago a good friend here suggested "The Prayer Primer" by Fr Dubay. That book was so helpful! I'd grown up as a Christian if I'd seen that book on a shelf I'd have passed it by because I thought I knew all there was to know about prayer, but, I trusted the friend. WOW.

I suggest that book followed by Fr Dubay's "Deep Conversion, Deep Prayer" and also Fr Phillipe's "Time For God".

You can pick all of these up used on Amazon for a few bucks, or, your library may be able to get them on interlibrary loan.
