hello
the store I was working for is going out of business. a girl there offered me to work at the rite aid her father works at. I know we have talked here before about selling contraceptives. would it be acceptable for me to work in a place where I would be ringing up contraceptives (as a cashier)?

second question- on ash Wednesday I did my best to fast. except that I bought my son an ice cream cone and he didnt finish it. I have a hard time throwing food away so I ate it. do I need to confess this?

As a cashier, I think it would be at most remote material cooperation, which is not sinful, and it is not sinful because it is ultimately unavoidable.

As to your second question, I would say 'probably not', but I have to ask 'what do you think the Ash Wednesday consists of?' It's actually not a very strict fast.

that's why I feel guilty about it bc I know the church doesnt ask much when it comes to fasting. I know it's supposed to be two small meals that dont equal one regular meal plus one regular meal. I know ice cream is not considered acceptable but I didnt out right buy it for myself I ate it bc I have issues with throwing food away

There is no limitation on what you're allowed to eat except no meat

Well, it's supposed to be two small meals (or "collations"), but there's no rule about their not adding up to one meal (even though this "rule" is widely cited).

I don't think there's any hard and fast rule about ice cream. I wouldn't scruple about it, especially since you didn't buy it for yourself.

It is difficult to know just how much one is allowed to eat, especially since not everyone has the same appetite. So, the rule I use for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday is that however much I eat, it should not be enough to make me feel fully sated, if I'm in mostly sated, but still feel a little hungry, that's the sweet spot. You should feel hungry when you wake up the next morning.
