I never do anything when having a bad day.. OK maybe not never but rarely do I do much

that's because I am too busy being in a bad mood

laugh but true.. I am an idiot (sometimes)

sometimes not :)

well, anyway.. what i should do is go for a walk but sometimes the weather is not accommodating so can't take a walk

I could fix myself an espresso. But again, I don't do much to help myself when in a bad mood. That is interesting, you know.. it's like a residual from the days when i.. well, I once was a rather self-defeating person for years and probably still am. I tried to change and thought i had succeeded but I don't think i have..

well, anyway, i need to think of things i can do when in a bad mood. I am not in a bad mood right now, but was starting to go there..

hey, maybe i actually am not so hopeless after all

anyway---just rambling

added later:

here's a good exercise: ask yourself why you were starting to fall into a bad mood? Answer: I read something on the forums that didn't set too well with me.. but i will be danged if i can recall what it was.. funny how the mind works.. you'd think one could recall such things especially when it was only about 10 minutes ago. But in any case

ETA: I couldn’t resist the obvious song link, but in all honesty, music is my salve. I have a playlist of songs that I like to listen to when I’m feeling down - not because they’re particularly uplifting or depressing, but because they strike a particular chord when I’m in that kind of mood. Here are some of my favorites.

“To Turn You On” by Roxy Music: https://youtu.be/P136AgVU5FQ
“Vienna” by Billy Joel: https://youtu.be/oZdiXvDU4P0
“Solace” by Scott Joplin (performed by Marvin Hamlisch): https://youtu.be/GOwachalNNw
“After the Love Has Gone” by Earth, Wind, and Fire: https://youtu.be/7tuJfud4W6U
“Deacon Blues” by Steely Dan: https://youtu.be/YhQ5Dg6gdEw

I'd read a book.

I don't know anything about you (age, work status, etc.), so some of my suggestions might not apply:

It helps to have commitments. In my case, I work full-time. It's not an option for me to not get out of bed. And that's good, in my case. I also volunteer (teach Grade 8 catechism). Having commitments minimizes how much time I can devote to negative thinking and licking my wounds. It takes me outside of myself.

Phone a friend. Or get together. Whatever works for you.

Go for a walk anyway. Easier said than done, but it helps.

Watch an edifying film, or read something edifying/inspirational.

Read scripture.

I also can't recommend enough the podcasts/videos by Fr. Timothy Gallagher on spiritual discernment. He explains the principles of Ignatian spirituality with regard to the highs and lows in our spiritual journey.

This is a timely set of posts ... I am having the worst few weeks of my 20+ year career and I am having a hard time holding it together physically, emotionally and spiritually. Keep posting. I would also appreciate even a simple prayer.

Before I retired, I would remind myself that tomorrow would be a better day. And until my last year of teaching, it invariably was.

Do some strenuous activity, and say a prayer.

I used to listen to music a lot, but not lately because no longer have a good sound system, probably should change that

funny but i have never heard of any of those songs, haven't heard of Scott Joplin, not familiar w/ Roxy Music

your parish does not have a tabernacle in plain sight in the church itself?

yes, i pray when down, but probably not as often as I should. I get in a bad mood and I may say a quick prayer to one of the saints or Mary Queen of Saints but.. I tend to dwell on things a little too long

Note to all:

don't do that

ah ha.... is that because the building is locked except during Mass? i've only encountered that at one other parish in my short time (20 years) as a Catholic :fyi:

i also have found it to be rare

I used to live in a place where the Churches were open during the day.. but it is just my luck that the last time i moved.. I found myself in one of those rare places where He is not available
