I have the opportunity to chaperone a large group of students on a trip to Washington DC. The problem is that there will likely be no opportunity to attend Mass due to the responsibilities of chaperoning. Is this something I could seek dispensation for? If it wasn't for the chaperoning part, I would love to attend Mass at a DC church, but I would be shirking my duties as chaperone. :(

Usually Mass is part of what happens on the March. Is this with a non-Catholic group?

Canon law does allow for pastors to grant dispensations from the Sunday Obligation, talk to your priest if you really can't go.

Thank you. I will do that.

It's a post-school year trip of eighth grade public school kids in late May.

I guess I had March for Life on my mind when I read that. Sorry. Yes, you can ask your pastor about this, but there may be Catholic kids on the trip who would want/like/need to go to Mass too. Maybe the organizers can make that possible if you ask.

That's not a bad idea! Thanks!

What a terrific witness that would be; and how appreciative those parents would be!
