So did I. And not all from the usual suspect.

Gave I, as well.

I got the illustrated version of Wind in the Willows (illustrations by E.H. Shepard) and my son is loving reading it now.

We had one that had a scanty 3 total illustrations in the entire book (and only individual characters and it wasn't by Shepard). But this one has illustrations on almost every page.
They're beautifully done and they really capture one's imagination.

So thanks to whoever suggested this illustrated version.

That was the edition I had and still have. Read portions of it to my wife, early in the marriage.

This may be the first Christmas, ever, at least since I was old enough to read, that I didn't get a book. Not one.

Except for this year's Matthew Kelly giveaway book, which doesn't really count.

I envy the Willows recipients. In their volumes and literary tastes.

I, however, got a book on The First Day of Operation Barbarossa. Top that!

A dagger in my heart. It could be rectified. Do you have a history of the 92nd Infantry Division?

Ok.

I got 15 books. The only WWII title was on the fall of France.

My wife also got 15 titles

I started my reading by taking one of hers.

Quality, not quantity.

Because if quantity is the measure of excellence, then I concede.

If you could accurately assess quality, you would increase your quantity.

Which is different from the observation that quantity has a quality of its own

Can you quantify your assertions above? Or would your response be qualified?

I am qualified to make the assertions.

Just received two more presents. Clearly books. Now I have almost half as many as you received. I'm sticking with quality.

Oddly enough, so do I. And quantities of it.

I can top that: this is the 30+ consecutive year that I didn't get or give any gifts at all.
