This site informs on how the recitation of the Rosary occurs. However, is the praying of the Rosary Scriptural?

The Rosary
“With the exception of the last two, each mystery is explicitly scriptural. True, the Assumption and Coronation of Mary are not explicitly stated in the Bible, but they are not contrary to it, so there is no reason to reject them out of hand. Given the scriptural basis of most of the mysteries, it’s little wonder that many Protestants, once they understand the meditations that are the essence of the rosary, happily take it up as a devotion. We’ve looked at the prayers found in the rosary and the mysteries around which it is formed. Now let’s see how it was formed historically."

Is "Scriptural" an appropriate criterion? it seems to me to be sufficient to say that it is not contrary to Scripture.

"The Rosary is the compendium of the entire Gospel" (Pope Paul VI quoting Pope Pius XII).
See: http://www.ewtn.com/Devotionals/prayers ... ipture.htm
"Many Catholic and non-Catholic Christians prayerfully read and apply Scripture to their lives, that is, meditate on them. With the rosary this can be done virtually anywhere and anytime."

Well, you know, there are two ways to interpret a text or at least two extremes:

1. everything that is not explicitly allowed is forbidden
or
2. everything that is not explicitly forbidden is allowed

One of the main differences between Protestants is that some read the Bible with the first philosophy in mind, e.g. ' nowhere in the New Testament is the word 'pope' used, therefore, the papacy is unbiblical', these are the fundamentalists.

Liberal Protestants tend to take the exact opposite view, e.g. 'nowhere in scripture does it condemn abortion, therefore abortion is allowed.'
