Voyage to Alpha Centauri: A Novel by Michael D. O'Brien

Had the sample on my Kindle, I began it last night. It was a night when I was hurting and restless, usually on those nights I'm too distracted to read, but I began that sample and I was hooked! While it is a long sample, still, I did what I never do and bought it (I feel a bit guilty spending $18 on a book, it is by far the most I have ever spent on a Kindle book). Actually longing for this day to be over at work so I can get home and back to reading it!

That sounds like my kind of book, but I can't handle spending that much for an ebook. I'd rather pay a few bucks more and get the hardback. Let me know if the ending lives up to the beginning.

This novel has 588 pages so you can expect to spend more time in reading.

The author, a Canadian, also wrote six other novels.

Yep, I've read other books of his, in fact - SV loaned me 4 of them that I REALLY need to mail back :) Those, the series about the Last Days, I greatly enjoyed. The other one - never got past the Kindle Sample.

Had been sidetracked by somethings - picked it back up last night. Like an 8 year old with a flashlight under the covers, I stayed up WAY too late reading.

Sorta wish someone here was reading this book. I have the curse of the homeschooler, when I read a good book I want to discuss it with other people.

Well I just sent myself a sample, and if I like it I will get it. You're right that it is a bit much for an ebook. I think the most I've spent in the past is $15 and that was for a prerelease (Baen releases not-fully-edited versions for those who just can't wait).

So far, I am not disappointed (around 63%). Some of it got me a little bit spooked last night, reading in the dark, had to turn on the light!

OK, we're not off to an auspicious start. Protagonist suffers under environmentalist regime ... boo hoo. Gigantic spaceship constructed on earth instead of in orbit ... wth?

Heck, I do not even remember anything about how the big ship was built. The big ship stays in orbit around then new planet and uses shuttles to go back and forth - I know that near the end they talk about the need for shuttles to take them back to earth from the big ship. When DH wakes up I have to go get my Kindle and re-read the beginning...
