It's a mixture of old hymns, contemporary hymns, as well as Gregorian Chant. It has something for everyone:

Hey! I just noticed that they have these in the pews in the chapel at our Catholic School! So they must be good!

I only wish it came with a cd set (like spirit and song) so we can hear the music :) Some of us musicians play by ear and not by notes :)

Priory, what do you do when they change keys on you? So far, they have changed keys on one song I do for Mass three times now. My brain hurts.

I only feel comfortable singing between the keys of E - G and so I transpose any song we sing to one of those keys.

On my guitar its simple because of the lovely, wonderful, God issued, essential 'capo' :) and I bought a keyboard that allows me to play in the key written on the sheet music but automatically transpose into whichever key I prefer.

I guess as a musician I am 'cheating' but, ah, whatever

I can't wait to get my copy of Canticle... but I'm waiting until they release the music book, not just the original hymnal. I was told I had to wait 'til next year for that.

Did they give you an idea as to when next year?

They did not. But even if they did, I'm sure they'd be late by over six months.

Yeah :( the complete music book will be awesome. In the mean time if you are interested, the 'Holy is the Lord' songbook had a good portion of the 'Canticle' songs in it
