Volkswagen confirmed Thursday that it will end production of the Beetle in 2019, though it hinted that the car could one day be revived

My parents had two VW’s (“Vee-Dubs”). The main difference to me was the size of the rear window. Our 1950’s bug had a small oval rear window (1953-1957). Our 1960’s bug had a larger rear window (introduced in 1958) and, I think, a 3-speed semi-automatic transmission (1967-1976). My Mom had that VW until she died in 1999.

My fondest memory of the VW is riding in the cargo compartment behind the back seat when I was really young.

The abiding genius of the VW is that it was designed to be as simple as possible mechanically.

Indeed. It was so simple even I could fix it.

My first and only car! It's only 4 years younger than me however.

My first car was a bug. Worked great, but there was no heat in the winter, but there was lot's of it blasting all summer.

Maybe your heater boxes needed new gaskets.

I think it looked best in its Afrika Korps livery:
