Is this an open debate here on the concept of Sola Scriptura? What are the rules?

The only rule I'm going to impose is that this remain between pax and Parker. They can decide on the rules of engagement.

The only rules I insist upon is no cut'n'paste without a link or a footnote, and no adding or subtracting from Scripture with opinions. Neither of us are Greek or Hebrew scholars, so citing a concordance and pretending we know what it means is disingenuous. Let us approach each other with respect and humility in the knowledge of our own limitations.

I use the Douay-Rheims online transaltion found here: http://www.drbo.org/

And remember that we are at the mercy of our translators.

May I, with permission, use the definition I previously posted on another thread?

What do you mean?

Agreed, I don't recall debating anything with you personally.

I use the ESV.

Of course ou may quote yourself. If it is not your words, then supply a footnote to who the author is.

What do I mean by no opinions? I believe the Holy Scriptures are capable of speaking for themselves without our opinions clogging the literal meaning of the Text. If you wish to offer an interpretation that is fine, but the literal meaning of the Text is always the primary meaning God wanted to convey. I believe that is a necessary default position. Otherwise, it is just your interpretation against mine, and both have equal weight, which is zero.

Whether or not we have debated before is moot. All that matters is we show respect and humility and acknowledge our own limitations.

Parker, I think what he means primarily by opinion is your propensity to insert things into scripture such as: "Jesus meant for them to write down what he taught them." That isn't your interpretation of any passage, it is you inserting something that isn't there or anywhere else in scripture. An interpretation can be supported in some way (even if it's a faulty interpretation), an opinion cannot.

Funny you should mention that. I was thinking today that it's time to bring the Viking Kitty avatar back.

Parker has gone off to summer camp to be a teacher there. The debate is on hold for a month or two.

If so, true, that process is very expensive and can be exhausting, from what other teachers have told me.
As a substitute teacher, I get asked sometimes why don't I get certified.
$5000 is a good round figure.

Sorry about the late delay, but I got another question to ask prior to engaging this formal debate: what exactly is the key question you are looking for?

Well, the first thing you could do for me would be to prove from Scripture Alone that Matthew wrote the Gospel of Matthew.
