Will it interfere with the announced Advent 2011 date for the revised English Mass texts if the whole Missale Romanum has to pass through Google Translate?

[Iwishitwereajoke]
accipiens et hunc praeclarum calicem in sanctas ac venerabiles manus suas:

Google translate: taking also this goodly chalice into His holy and venerable hands

Current ICEL translation: he took the cup

Oh the Google translator is not half

Ecce agnus dei. Ecce qui tollit peccata mundi

Behold the Lamb of God. Behold, he that taketh away the sins of the world

It capitalizes the lamb and God itself, and uses taketh!

Domine non sum dignus ut intres sub tectum meum sed tantum dic verbo et sanabitur anima mea

I am not worthy, O Lord, that Thou shouldst enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed

My case is that it was trained on things in the public domain including liturgical translations (The fact that it translated 100% accurately and with hieratic language common liturgy phrases should be no surprise then)

It translates the Latin Pater Noster as

Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done as it is in heaven and on earth. Our daily bread give us today and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Just debita nosta is our debts, but if in the context of the Our Father it picks up on that

Most definitely. I'm just surprised that it doesn't get "who art in heaven."

The word order problems suggest that the system isn't mining translations from its training data very aggressively.

Actually it does get the who art... I typed qui est rather than qui es on acciddent

Heck try typing the hail Mary into it...just pec already renders sinners (peccatoribus), extra tuus's are your, but those in the actual pray are thy, etc

See it is just spitting out for the most part known renderings of certain prayers. Hence the "translation" of the Memorare is the exact one traditionally used in English, despite the English not only changing certain words, but adding some (like Incarnate)

Is this going to put Fr. Z out of business?

"sweet dreams" -> "chronotribe." Bug, right?
