I've been wanting to learn Latin, but I need some pep talks or a slap in the face.

What are some motivational reasons one should learn Latin (I have some, but inspire me more so I'll stop being lazy)

1) Because it's good for you.
2) Because it will immensely improve your English.
3) Because it's the universal language of the Church.
4) St. Thomas, St. Augustine, St. Bernard in the original .........

5) Really cool phrases like "Veni, vidi, vici" et cetera.
6) Knowing what all those silly little abbreviations mean: i.e., e.g., ibid., op. cit., et al., viz. &c.
7) Makes learning other Romance languages simpler.

To expand a little on Father's first point, learning Latin does enable you to see finer distinctions within language, which is a highly useful skill. It certainly aids with seeing finer distinctions in thought.

Another reason to learn Latin is so that you can read Fr. Kenobi's board signature!

Also, if you want to be un-ecumenical, learn Latin so you can call out BINGO numbers in Latin so the Protestants can't win.

p.s. I, too, would like to elevate my quite meager Latin ability.
