Pardon the little gripe, but I can't resist. I friend of mine told me her brother's uncle-in-law said Mass at the brother's home on Christmas and left out the first reading and THE CREED!!! Is this guy just lazy, or is it worse than that?

:x

Left out the READING? Which one, the gospel reading you meaning? If it were just a daily Mass, I would say that it is possible to honestly forget the creed, but the reading? And on Christmas? Hard to believe that could be an 'accident'

He left out the first reading. Leaving out any of them on purpose is just out of line! :P

The readings should be read as prescribed. On Sundays and solemnities, there are two readings and the psalm before the Gospel. On weekdays there is one reading and a psalm before the Gospel.

The Creed is recited on Sundays and solemnities, but not on other days.

Greetings,

The priest could have been ill and left out all he could and still had a valid mass. I have to admit I did a 25 minute easter mass once and everyone was wondering why I didn't say around and talk after mass. When you stomach churns at the openning prayer a lot of calculations happen.

peace

But what if he wasn't sick? As far as I know, he was just fine. He has some other unorthodox attitudes, too, so my suspicion is something a little more dire than sickness, which could be understandable.

Well, it's really hard to come to any conclusions until we know the circumstances behind what happened. It's easy to jump to a conclusion that he did this on purpose, when there may have been a very understandable reason.
