Post subject:  EMHCs: washing of the hands ?

As a follow on to another thread about ritual in the Mass - I am an EMHC and always wash my hands in the bowl before going to assist the Priest.

However, most EMHCs do not do this.

Is there anything prescribed that I should be doing this or is it purely optional ?

Nothing prescribed that I know.
I dip my fingers in the bowl after serving as An EMOHC to ensure there are no particles clinging to them. That's not prescribed either.

I don't think there is a rite for this for emhc. However, at our church they all come in from the side, and just before they enter they each get a spurt of hand sanitizer. We began this during the flu season 2 years ago. It is not liturgical, but practical.

I am not an EMHC but a sacristan. I do wash my hands before touching sacred vessels (sacra vasa, in Latin) and before the Mass. I have seen a deacon do the same thing.
