Before mass this morning, the organist (pianist) announced that Pope Gregory has said he wants to go "back to the roots" so starting next week we will be singing some latin hymns. She sounded a bit put out but gave the hymn the ole college try. I was wondering if anyone else has had it mentioned in their church. Personally, I think it's wonderful. There are so many hymns that they (not me) sing that are not Catholic in origin. Again, I am very happy to hear this. :D

Pope Gregory?

Has there been a death, a funeral, and another convocation of the College of Cardinals that I am unaware of???

Hmmm..

Of course, I go to a TLM now, so I am surrounded by good "old school" music

Greetings,

Every liturgical document that speaks about music says that gregorian chant must be retained. Every church should be familiar with it, especially the response. It is our history.

Many musicians in our diocese would be very much against this sort of thing, which is sad. They do not know church music, and since they do not know it they are afraid of it. It has been totally ignored in our diocese for 40 years. So there will be difficult time bringing it back.
I hope you have good luck with this attempt.
peace

The latest version of the Roman Missal contains the songs in Gregorian chant notation. Thus, the priest can sing the Eucharistic Prayer #2 in Latin that way.
