Curious here....

Do you listen to the Priest or Deacon Proclaim the Gospel, or do you read along?

Listen...then my mind is only occupied with that, and doesn't get "sucked in" to the succeeding verses...

Listen. Seems "scriptural" somehow though I could be wrong on that. Plus I don't get irritated when they misread it, which happens from time to time.

I used to read along, but now, more often than not, I have a child in my arms, so I just listen.

I read the passages between the Rosary and the beginning of Mass and then I listen when the when the Gospel proclamation is read.

My husband has a hard time understanding speakers that have accents or that talk through microphones or have other distortion (English isn't his first language) so he has to read along. I always have to re-explain the Homily to him after mass. :)

Depends on if I am holding Emma or not. :) Although I think scripture (especially during Mass) is best heard and not read.

Listen since I've pretty much know the passages from hearing them over and over.

Read if it's my priest, listen if it's my deacon. The priest has earned the nickname "Father Mumbles".

I'm a visual person. I don't process spoken words very well, (but music speaks to me). I usually read along, but I try to listen without reading sometimes. When I sing I usually close my eyes so I can better see the pattern of the music in my mind.

What was the question?

I often listen but if the reader is doing a poor job, I will read along.

Read along - it's a preference. Also, during recitation of Creed, I "read" instead of reciting from memory - it's not that I don't know it by heart, but prefer to read it out loud - thereby keeping distractions (kids, people, etc) at a minimum. Also, "read" along singing "Gloria" - same reasons. Jo

I read along, otherwise my mind wanders, and I start thinking about my research, or something I read the other day, or whatever.
