I have two questions:

1) Just like at mass there are various instructions in the Divine Office on how it should be said in what order and so on. I heard the Divine Office (both OF and EF) are part of the public prayer of the Church, so is a layman saying the office privately bound not to omit or add anything? Or to follow the instructions to the letter?

2) Is the Little Office of Our Lady (1962) considered public or private prayer?

A layman praying the Office privately can do what he likes. But why do it wrong?

The Little Office is a private devotion. Some religious orders use it, but it's not a general part of the life of the Church.

Well I'm terribly disorganized, so if I pray half an office because it's all I can figure out how to fit in my day, that's better than nothing.

By "half an office," do you mean not praying all the hours?

My thought is that it is better to do one or more of the Hours correctly than do all of them, but only partially. It's probably a good idea to start with the so-called little Hours - Prime, Terce, Sext, and None.

What is at hand. I have an app for 62 but also the Little Office 62; sometimes with friends we use the OF.

The Little office I think still constitutes part of the public prayer of the Church, at least it used to, and I thought there was a statement by Paul VI to that effect. Will see if I can find it

I use an app to read the Liturgy of the Hours in Russian.
