So, I don't know the nature of USCCB commissions (or any other Church Commissions really), but if they're anything like academic or gov ones, the question has to be asked. Are they really, seriously talking about issuing a special breviary for parish priests, different from the rest of the Church? Or rather, is it likely?

On a bright note, amidst all the diplomat language it seemed there was mention of updated proper prayers concurrent with the updated translations.

+Trautmann is one of the people behind much of the liturgical silliness of past decades. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in Texas of an edition that's different except perhaps for the hymns.

Why is the current form of the breviary too difficult for parish priests? That seems a stretch. As it is, they only have to pray the book 5 times a day (4 times if they do the Office of Readings and Lauds at the same time) - and most of the hours are short. The only hour that isn't really short is the Office of Readings and it's only 3 psalms and 2 readings. The whole office is much shorter than it was even in 1962 (and Matins had gone through a substantial shortening process already before 1962).

Good to know!

5 times a day for the LOH is already quick enough to do as is... much less compared to the pre-reform Breviary, which priests managed just fine then.

Three Psalms and two readings!! That's shorter than one nocturn of Matins in the older Breviary (three psalms and three readings).

Part of me suspects that there are some who'd like it all cut down to just the intercessions and the proper prayer. :nono: ::):
