I don't know a Norwegian version of what I can find on youtube. Possibly, there is one, but apparently not in our hymnal. I don't actually know the English version either though. Not that I remember anyway.

The tune to the hymn I am planning to have for the procession outside the church and wondering whether I can use also if we have to forego the procession, is set to the same tune as All people that on earth do dwell, but the lyrics are different.

Everybody in the US knows it, I think. And in the UK too.

Unfortunately, that's not true. Even assuming you're speaking about Catholics, when I recommended All Glory, Laud, and Honor for the procession a few years back, people looked at me like I was crazy. My two friends from Louisville had never heard of it, as well as many friends from here in Texas. They all were used to doing "Jerusalem, My Destiny" and "Hosanna" or some other such Gather hymnal nonsense. In Louisiana, though, every parish I'd ever attended for Palm Sunday sang this during the procession.

My chant group's doing it tomorrow for the procession, though. :)

The music director for the parish asked me what the chant group is doing at 8 AM Mass, and I sent him the list of songs: "All Glory, Laud, and Honor" for procession; "At the Cross Her Station Keeping" for offertory; "O Sacred Head Surrounded" for closing. Then we're doing "Crux Fidelis", "My Song is Love Unknown", and "Jesus, Remember Me" at communion.

He said, "Sounds good!"

I later got an email from him that was sent to all the Palm Sunday choir leaders with a guide about how the beginning of Mass works. Then he gave a planning guide for music: none of my the songs we picked were on the list except for "Jesus, Remember Me" (a Taize chant). Everything else was Gather hymnal nonsense or praise and worship nonsense. It makes me want to weep.

One year I was at summer camp and we were having a procession - the boys were carrying a huge cross in procession, and I had been tasked with leading the singing (since I can kind of carry a tune, even though I don't read music). They asked me to sing "Jesus, Remember Me" and, of course, I didn't know it :D I know it now because it is extremely easy but it's really not worthy to be sung in church.

I do know "All Glory, Laud, and Honor" but I've never heard it at a mainstream parish.

Very sad to see our patrimony so rudely cast aside.

It's not particularly worth it, but we sing a nice 4-part version of it, and it's our last communion piece (really only done while the vessels are being purified). The recommendation for this song was to do it as closing though. -_-

I'm not even sure that I know the song you are referring to, and I am 99.9% certain that I have never heard it sung in Mass, at any time of year.

It's rarely (if ever) sung on a day other than Palm Sunday, though the tune is recycled for another hymn that's sung on feast days of saints, with verses for important saints. I also note that the version in the video above has a slight melodic variation from the one I usually hear.

We sang it during the procession but I was at the tail end of the procession so I barely heard it :(

But to the best of my recollection I've never heard it at any parish other than my current one (which isn't mainstream). Then again, I don't really recall having a procession on Palm Sunday at all at a mainstream parish.

I have been to a Mass on Palm Sunday where before the Mass began the priest asked if anyone wanted to go to the school hall, the procession would start from there and then go to the church. Also, he declared that if people did not want to go to the school, that it was not a requirement.

it's been a couple of years since we've had a procession (and except for inclement weather [once], we have always had one) ... the first year we didn't, i assumed liturgical necessities were being violated again :?

We did a full procession once at my old Newman Center. The church's campus was small, but we started as far as possible away from the front doors of the Church and the priest did the blessing of palms and the Gospel reading. Then our choir chanted the "Hosanna to the Son of David" antiphon as we processed around the Church building to the front doors. But after we entered the Church, we sang All Glory, Laud, and Honor.

That's the only time I've ever seen the full procession. Usually the priest just blesses palms at the back of the Church and then we sing a hymn as the priest and the altar boys (and potentially the deacon) process to the front.

I would have processed from outside if we hadn't had ice, snow, and freezing temps.
