At your church, is Washing of the Feet conducted on Holy Thursday?

It is part of the Holy Thursday liturgy, it ought to be done at every Catholic church in the world.

one would certainly hope so... the actual form however is the point of contention for many

The Mandatum (another name for the washing of the feet) is optional at Holy Thursday Masses, but it's been done at every Holy Thursday Mass I've attended.

Quote:
The Mandatum rite itself is only optional in the Holy Thursday liturgy. The celebrant can still decide whether he would include the rite in his Holy Thursday liturgy and can safely omit the Mandatum rite for whatever reasons he thinks fit.

I think it is best done outside of the Mass myself.

Pope Francis just washed the feet of prisoners yesterday. The Bishop of Coimbra washed the feet of twelve firefighters, who fought terrible forest fires in Portugal last year.

This year I have been blessed to assist at the historical Roman Holy week, pre1955 reforms.

The mandatum is NOT even an option at the Mass according to this form, but an opal separate ceremony done sometime after. The tradition is for superiors to wash and kiss the feet of inferiors (one of many reasons it was not done by priests to women, being against modesty)

Nice! The Pius XII reforms of Holy Week are really baffling - especially when one sees the prior practice.

There just aren't any lot of opal ceremonies anymore. :|

I remember a poster who used to post here named 'John F' (who I once heard has been banned, though I can't imagine why, because he was never rude or abusive), he was a former Catholic who belonged to some anti-trinitarian sect (the Oneness Pentecostals maybe?) and he used to complain that Jesus said his apostles were to follow his example and wash each other's feet, and yet Catholics had never made foot washing a sacrament, which apparently his church did.

He insisted that the words of institution 'this is my body, this is my blood' were only figurative, as were Christ's words in John 6, but insisted that Christ meant the command to wash each other's feet literally and that it was not (as pretty every interpreter ever has held) just a figure of speech and that foot washing was meant to represent 'service to others' and not literal foot washing.

I think this example completely blows away the idea that there is such as thing as 'the plain sense' of scripture.
