American Catholics have widely accepted the changes in the Roman Catholic Mass to reflect a closer translation of the Latin that was introduced last year, even if these revisions may signal greater centralization in the church, according to a new survey by Catholic University of America researcher Anthony Pogarelc.

The tiny blip I notice the most are some leaving out 'holy'
and the good of all his holy church

and 'of hosts' - not when it's sung, but at Daily Mass when it isn't sung ...
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts

Other than that and still needing some help with the Creeds (I'm not the only one still using the cheat sheet :) ) it seems quite smooth.

Oh ... and the Gloria is different at every parish.

That sounds great, but there are still many places especially in non-English speaking countries.

I recently visited the Carmel of Santa Teresa of Jesus at Coimbra, Portugal. They haven't replaced their old American Sacramentary (a gift from Felician sisters many years ago) with the new Roman Missal in English, so my pastor used the Magnificat magazine to say the Mass.

My pastor isn't a fan of many of the changes, because in his opinion it doesn't follow the directive of Vatican II which calls for "noble simplicity" in the liturgy.

I'm cynical about this stuff. Although of course I love the change, Benedict's biggest accomplishment (freeing my Mass is great but only affects us trads, a minority), I agree with whoever said whatever change the church makes in this department, a minority loves it, a minority hates it, and most Catholics, the nominal churchgoers and the lapsed, just go along. As happened with the Novus Ordo. The few 'progressives' enthused; the SSPX left; the big rank and file mumbled 'andalsowithyou', didn't sing, looked at their watches and bugged out in time to watch the game. A mandatory return to our Mass would be the same in reverse. Some loud complaining but few departures.

 The Thomas Day factor: most American Catholics never were high-church so like this priest they like the changes 45 years ago. The next Popes need a long time to finish what Benedict the Great started.

AH yes, it should come with a remote, and when it does we can then work on staying home and watching it on TV. Much less demanding and simpler I should think.

It's not about "US", which is the whole point of the priest with his back to "us".

Now what was the name of that encyclical admitting it did not work?.

I don't know why everyone focuses on the 'and with your spirit' thing...it is by comparison one of the smallest and least significant changes in the Mass....it is microscopic compared to all the macroscopic changes that positively permeate the new translation....it's like if I walked into the room stark naked and the only thing anyone can say is 'dude....it looks like you got a haircut'

Because few people memorized the Collects. "And also with you" would be said multiple times during a typical Mass, so it is the most prominent change even if it isn't the most important.
