I ordered a new missal for the changes due in advent........... what should I expect?

The prayers will be fuller, more content filled and in a more formal style. Fr.Zuhlsdorf at wdtprs.com has for years been translating the Latin to show what it really says. The feast of St. Peter Claver is a good example

The Latin was

Deus, qui beatum Petrum servorum servum effecisti eumque mira in eis iuvandis caritate et patientia roborasti, eius nobis intercessione concede, ut, qua Iesu Christi sunt, quaerentes, proximos opere et veritate diligamus.


(there are changes, in the Latin, from the "old Latin Mass")

The prayer as said this year in English

God of mercy and love, you offer all peoples the dignity of sharing in your life. By the example and prayers of Saint Peter Claver, strengthen us to overcome all racial hatreds and to love each other as brothers and sisters.

As you will hear it next year

O God, who made Saint Peter Claver a slave of slaves and strengthened him with wonderful charity and patience as he came to their help, grant, through his intercession, that, seeking the things of Jesus Christ, we may love our neighbor in deeds and in truth.


Aside from the translation being heavily corrected, there are other changes. The 2003 Roman Missal has been around for a while now. It just took this long to translate it! The changes to the Missal itself, and not just the translation, are several. There is the restoration of some feasts (the Vigil of Ascension, where that is kept on Thursday, and an option to do the Pentecost Vigil in a more traditional manner, closer to the tradition Easter Vigil as was done before 1955 among others). Certain things have been gotten rid of, like eucharistic prayers for children.

That does not seem right. It was announced three years ago that even the US bishops dropped it from their agenda
