I just had one. I had a number of risk factors but was relying on the principle: IT ALWAYS HAPPENS TO SOMEONE ELSE. To my great surprise this isn't so. After four days in hospital I have gone home with a stint in one artery and instructions to change some habits and take four to six weeks off. My prognosis is good.

This may be presumption: A a younger man I came close to death due to addictions and emotional/spiritual problems. At those times I had not been near the Church in years. For the last twelve years I have attended confession and mass regularly. The thought of having quite possibly died last week is not so troubling.

Anyone have any comments or a similar experience. What to do with time off? Daily mass is the only promise I've made so far. How do I use this? I have done little in my life in terms of charitable works and have thought this for some time.

Any comments will be read gratefully.

Yes ... it could be any of us slightly-past-middle age people.
 for continued healing and healthier living.

I was playing sports, no advanced warning signs - collapsed in front of my wife and son. Fortunately, there was a fireman, a medical doctor, and a defibrillator all present. All were needed as my heart stopped.

Blockages?

100, 100, 95 and 75.

Home in 2 1/2 weeks, post quad bypass!

That was close to three years ago.
Make the changes - It is worth it. Since then I have seen the birth of my grandson.
Exercise is the most important - you need to push yourself, but not over the edge

Biggest thing to get over is the nagging fear that it will happen again. That is the importance of the exercise - lets you understand that you are capable of much more.

How is your blood pressure?

I had no warning signs. About three days before admission to the hospital I began to have indigestion like pains which at first were tolerable. That pain, along with terrible nausea, worsened and forced me to the ER.

I had one artery blocked: 90%.

Thank SofT. My blood pressure now is normal. Before the attack it was slightly elevated but I hadn't followed MD advice to check it regularly. I also had intermittent pain in my calves which I thought was muscle strain but in fact was the result of clotting.

I did not have pain, but it was definitely getting tired easily and breathing hard while playing.

I put it off to just growing older - ignoring the fact that I was being run off my feet by a 76 year old opponent.
