For the last few months I have been having severe bouts of
Diverticulitis.
In fact one of my flare ups is coming to an end
this morning.
I have been reading about this problem on Mayo Clinic and Web MD,
but they don't really prescribe any definite cures for the problem.
In fact all foods that were once considered taboo, such as nuts
and seeds are considered now OK ; but this doesn't work for me.
If any of you suffer from IBS or Diverticulitis I'd be interested on
how you are dealing with it.
Thanksgiving will be a test on what I can eat, and what I can't eat.

I don't have it, so please take my comment with a grain of salt. There are three or four people in my extended family that do have it. They have been told to stay away from the usual suspects. My children's father sometimes cheats with one or two favorite items, and hasn't yet had another bout. I don't know if that's a foolish gamble or not.

It was my understanding that there isn't a cure, per se, but that it's a matter of management.

There's a difference between diverticulitis and diverticulosis. I have the latter, but that could turn into the former. IOW, my problem has yet to become infected. I started using psylium which moves everything along faster, so as not to cause any food accumulation in the diverticuli.

foods that keep the colon clean are key for managing diverticulitis....i too believe nuts and seeds are taboo and can be digested without problems...eating lots of whole grains, beans, fruits and vegetables are key to cleansing the colon...Though Prayer is the best treatment and cure...God Bless,,

I have been wrong all this time. I have diverticulosis and i am now using psylium and Meta Mucil.
I think my favorite food (salads) are not agreeing with me either.
Is there a cure for diverticulosis; or will i have it for life?

It can be managed, but I don't know if there is a cure. Check with your doctor to be sure. However, it was my experience that recommendations can change. My father has had both the elarged diverticuli as well as the inflamed sacs. Doctors first told him to avoid seeds and nuts. He did for a while, and then went back with no further infections, so I suppose it's possible to have only one attack.

I've had diverticulosis for 20+ years, and IBS for almost 30...I've had to eliminate caffein and citrus from my diet, and now I eat Greek yogurt, apples, and my wife's homemade bran muffins for breakfast every day, and take probiotics...it works reasonably well, but there are still occasional problems.
Diverticulosis is there for life...
