It's not as bad. Rock and roll has more beat and rhythm to it.

Observing the devilish nature of a form of music raises some interesting questions. I do believe that much of Rock is of the devil. That is why I listed my trepidations about it in the OP. It isn't just about the lyrics. There are interesting studies that try to discern the linkage between the beat of music and its intended result.

E.g., reverential music, the kind that should be dominate in worship, elicits certain physical responses associated with the higher functioning of the brain. Rock music based upon its beat seeks to solicited either orgasm or violence or both. They tested for physical responses associated with joy, reverence, anger, orgasm, and violence. Several Christian researchers concluded that much of the popular "Christian" music should not be used unless we are promoting sex and violence. I think there is much to commend these conclusions but I'm not totally convinced. I guess that's why I leave the door cracked open for some Rock music. But I think I rationalize. Perhaps I should talk to me priest.

Moreover, if you will note, traditional Catholic and Orthodox music is always reverential or joyful whereas much modern Protestant and RC music used in Church is neither.

The only time I associated rock or metal music w/any of that is when I got into the drug scene. Before that I just liked the music, it was fun. Today I listen to at at work and when I'm working out, I would not want metal at mass! ::):

That's exactly what I mean. There are 4 principle elements to music: harmony, melody, rhythm and beat. They correspond to basic human emotions, they both are a product of them and cause them upon hearing people. Harmony-peace, melody-love, rhythm-lust, beat-violence.

Lust and violence were around long before there was rock music, rock seems to get the rap for all manner of evil, a popular scapegoat.
