hehe...finally found the list in numerical order...got bad news for ya gurney... lifeson came in at #98 :nooo:

When a band has the best bassist and the best drummer, it can afford to have the 98th-ranked guitarist. :fyi:

was also a little surprised to see rhoades as far down as #36

That's a pretty crazy list, though. It's pretty clearly not based on talent or even influence as a guitarist. It's hard to say what it's based on.

This is extremely creepy and scary, as I am on record many times here on this board as arguing that George Harrison was the most talented of the Beatles as well as the best songwriter.

And I am on record many times here as arguing that Paul McCartney is clearly a way better songwriter and singer than George. Better songwriter than John, too, though I give John a slight edge as a rock singer. To my mind, as I think I said here a few months ago, John and Paul are without doubt the #1 and #2 greatest rock singers ever. And although I don't think I said this at the time, I'd probably go with #2 and #1 greatest pop songwriters ever. I love George a lot, but as a writer I don't consider him as being in their league, though I do love While My Guitar Gently Weeps. But Clapton had a hell of a lot to do with how great that song sounds, don't forget.

Yeah, so it's not about ability, it's about how much people like them. Even still, really, Bruce Springsteen? John Lennon? Paul Simon? Kurt Cobain? Joey Ramone? As guitarists? I get loving them as songwriters or performers or what have you. But does, say, Springsteen ever do anything with that Telecaster but either let it hang there ignored or bang away on it as a rhythm player? I admit to not knowing his whole catalog, so maybe I'm missing something.

ETA: I personally would put Dave Gilmour way ahead of Jimmy Page, for example, not because I think Gilmour is technically a better guitarist, but because I like his playing so much more than Page's. Gilmour is a really fantastic guitar player, and I think it makes a lot of sense to love his playing. Same for George Harrison, BTW. He'd easily be in my top ten favorite guitarists. But I can't think of anything special about Kurt Cobain's guitar playing, or even John Lennon's guitar playing. I don't get why they'd be on the list. Unless the list was "great rock and roll musicians who we love and who happen to play guitar." I'd get that.

at least those people were peers...and some music types... but the hilarious thing was , as the case with any "greatest list" the com boxes were blowing up with the ridiculousness of the list

I actually think that Ringo is the best singer of the 4...he has the nicest sounding voice and is the most versatile.....sure Paul and John were really good ROCK singers...but Ringo does rock and also does country songs like 'Act Naturally', and even a crooner like 'Good Night'....his voice is the most versatile...he could be a singer in just about any music genre, not just rock....although I will give Paul credit for being able to change the way his voice sounds...doing a Fats Domino impersonation in 'Lady Madonna'...and a....hell I don't even know what to call it...in Rocky Raccoon...but I still don't think Paul could do country or be a Sinatra-esque crooner the way Ringo did effortlessly.....hell, if Ringo had been born 40 years earlier, he would be giving Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra a run for their money...

Yeah, that's all I'm saying. Neither has a voice like Pavarotti or even Bing Crosby, but they're insane rock singers.

I like the sound of Ringo's voice, too, but I don't think he's got any kind of talent like Crosby had.
