Not too far into this book. The first few chapters were enjoyable, but I was struggling to keep interest. At least up until when Anodos leaves the Beech tree lady.
Which, oddly enough, my interest with this fairy land seems to parallel that of Anodos. What I mean, is that I had an "oh... that's cute" kind of attitude towards the book; which is pretty much like Anodos' attitude towards what he was seeing.

He seemed as unaffected by his initial wandering into this fairy land as I was. His interest with the happenings in that land correspond to mine. Maybe that's intentional.

It's much more interesting now.
MacDonald wasn't a Catholic but there seems to be quite a few references to the notion of Form and the nature of a thing derived by its form.

I believe that he was a universalist.

He's accused of that, certainly, but he had a profound positive influence on the imagination of C. S. Lewis.

As noted in everyone's least favorite Lewis book, THE GREAT DIVORCE.

Chesterton spoke well of him, too.

Not my least favorite. That would be Perelandra. I like The Great Divorce.

A plaudit for you.

Half-off for the Peralandra problem.

I've never had any use for any of Lewis' fiction, other than the Narnia series.

And you have other faults, too, perhaps?

I don't think he was a very good fiction writer. 'The Pilgrim's Regress' is tedious, albeit, not quite as tedious as the work by John Bunyan that inspired it, 'Till We Have Faces' is dull, and 'That Hideous Strength' is, well, hideous.

You got one out of 3 correct.

I love decoding PILGRIM'S. Gave myself the Wade annotated edition for Christmas.

Now, he was a pretty poor poet.

Did you have to give it to yourself, too?

I thought That Hideous Strength was Phantastic.

(sigh).

On second thought, that wasn't fair. My wife is a bibliomanic, too, but she knows that if there is a book I want, I most likely have it. She just stays out of my way.

I like "Till We Have Faces" also...

The line from The Fox when he says in answer to Oural's question about if the gods were just... and he said, "Of course not, what would happen to us if they were."
