I just discovered a new Star Wars novel by Timothy Zahn about Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Thrawn is without a doubt the best character ever introduced in the Star Wars Expanded Universe, and I am happy that even though the original Thrawn trilogy has been declared non-canonical that they are bringing the character into the new continuity.

I just downloaded this book for the Kindle, has anyone else here read it, or planning on reading it?

I have it and read it. They let him bring surprising parts of the EU back into canon.

Well, unlike the situation that existed before the sale to Disney, everything in the novels, cartoons and comics is now supposed to be fully canonical, so anything that shows up in Thrawn could well be in a future movie. We've already seen one character from Star Wars Rebels be introduced in the movies, namely Saw Guerra in Rogue One.

The ISB wasn't new-canon. It is now.

But apparently it was already back in canon. I didn't remember it from the Tarkin book, but I guess it's there. For that matter, I wasn't aware that Tarkin was canon.

All the books written since Disney's acquisition of Star Wars in 2012 are canon.

I know. I thought Tarkin predated that, but I was wrong.

I hope to read it when I get a chance (likely be mid-June at the earliest). That is if the story is worth taking the time to read (thought??).

I would love to see him in a movie at some point but I would guess it would have to be one of the anthology films, not a future film in the Ep7-9 trilogy. He would have to be crammed into the new trilogy awkwardly at this point and there are some strong foreshadowing of a looming defeat of his (I am assuming in the next season).

On a side note I am interested in upcoming book this fall, "From a Certain Point of View" which is a collection of 40 short stories based no background characters from A New Hope.
