Is anyone else reading this? I don't like 'reading' a play, and I wish it would have been made into a novel. But so far, it isn't bad.

I'll wait for the the movie. My guess is that's what Cursed Child is geared for to begin with. They were too lazy to do the world-building, or figured the HP Universe is already built, so why bother?

Regardless, it's surprising to see the ratings so low . . . 23% of Amazon customers are giving it only one star. The 'real' Harry Potter books, the ones that were actually written by J.K. Rowling, average something like 2%.

Cursed Child (1,900 reviews)

5 star 38%
4 star 14%
3 star 12%
2 star 13%
1 star 23%

But if Doom thinks it "isn't bad", maybe it's actually good. Let us know if you still feel that why at the end.

I suspect that people don't like it because it is not really a Harry Potter book, it's a script.

I'm trying to evaluate it by judging the quality of the story it tells.

You're probably right. Readers are going in with a preconceived set of expectations. This book takes a different kind of mindset. I'll await your final verdict.

My sister's recommendation was to borrow it from someone else.

I bought it today. Plan on reading it tonight and tomorrow. I was in London from July 19-26, and asked the theatre if they had any unsold tickets to the play. I was told that yes, in May 2017.

My daughter read it and seems to have liked it. I don't know if any of the other kids have read it yet.

I'm starting to understand why it is so strongly disliked.
